The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. This is our story - the empty tomb is not to be feared, out of it comes new life.

They were prepared to deal with death, but the presence of life when death was found missing, evoked a holy terror that brought them to their knees.

God, we left our homes this morning and traveled here expecting to find you. Just as the women carrying spices were alarmed by the message that the one they expected to find was not here, but had risen - alarm us with your truth today. Shake us free from the shackles of lukewarm religion, and summon us back to the way of Jesus. Amen.
