The Kinks GRC History of Rock

English Rock Band, founded by Dave and Ray Davies

Formed in 1963. Reached their height in 1964. Banned from touring in 1965.

Influenced by Jazz and Early Rock and Roll

Started out as the Ray Davies Quartet - Rod Stewart was a vocalist with the group for at time, before leaving to form his own group.

Ray Davies was Inspired by Louie, Louie when he wrote You Really Got Me. They had been threatened by their manager that they would lose their recording contract if they didn't turn out a hit.

The Kingsmen

Dave Davies cut a hole in the cone of his amplifier to acheive the gritty guitar sound used in the recording.

Reached #1 in the UK, Top 10 in the USA

Known for hit singles, not so much their studio albums.

Green Day

In 1965, the Kinks toured Asia, including a stop in Bombay, India.
