Background

Was a written and activist born in Wilmington North Carolina in either 1796 or 1797. Father was a slave, but mother was free woman. He inherited his mothers liberal rights. Moved to Boston. At one point he said he couldn't remain in North Carolina due to slaves and Racism. In Boston he became a succesful owner of second hand clothing shop. Very well educated. Attended Massachusetts General Colored Assosiation it was an organization opposed to slavery and racism.

Involvement

The Appeal described the pernicious effects of both slavery and the subservience of and discrimination against free blacks. Those outside of slavery were said to need special regulation “because they could not be relied on to regulate themselves and because they might overstep the boundaries society had placed around them

Legacy

In 1829 Walker published a Pamphlet entitled "Walkers Appeal" Passianate to argue about and against slavery and discrimination. After his death he had been rewarded. Some asumed he had been poisoned in fact he succumbed to Turberculosis. Walkers actions changed tones and aims of the abolition movement. Walker declared that the institution was scourge the it required imeadiate illimination he believed that African Americans had the right to feel equal citizens of the United States
