Street Art - Freiburg Part II 02 - 04 Dec 2015

I have been enjoying exploring Freiburg, Germany. There is so much to see here! These photos are from a short walk into the city center (approx. 2 km).

I found the stickers below by simply leaving Starbucks and turning right, instead of left. I found them in less than 10m from the Starbucks exit.

Sometimes I feel like the hamster. Eventually, I will be like the frogs, and feel proud to be who I am.

Here is exactly the reason why I don't like to "come back later" for a photo. In this case, the hamster that I photographed only the day before was merely covered by a notification notification for a Christmas choral perfmance. But I stick to my rule of never manipulating anything for the sake of a picture. Everything has a purpose for its time and place, whether or not I understand or agree. Plus, taking down a sign (and risk damaging it) for a religious event is probably not good karma. Especially when there is a Catholic religious center directly across the street.

One day this week I had a free afternoon, so I let myself get "lost" and wandered around Freiburg. When I had the choice between two streets, I always took the most narrow. I took every underpass instead of an overpass. The darker and narrower, the better. I had some good music to groove to and just let my feet guide me. Consequently, I found some really cool art work.

I saw Beavis and Butthead from a distance and knew that this was a good omen... After taking their picture, I turned to my left and my eyes exploded with all the colors that were before me. Unfortunately, with only a narrow sidewalk between the wall and the river, I could not get the distance I wanted for the photos.

Beat is one of the many street artists in Freiburg. I hope to come across more of their work, as well as learn about the other artists in the city.

Photographing the paintings below was only possible by good timing. When I first passed the building, earlier in the day, this parking lot was filled with cars. It looked like any other parking lot. On my return walk, however, the lot was empty and all of the art was clearly visible. While I was walking around, taking the pictures, I realized that this is an elementary school. So, I picked up my pace so that I could finish and clear out before someone thought I was being weird. (The man says, "Through puberty comes success")

I came across the lady and child below while taking a "short cut" through the passageway of a store. Unfortunately, it was too late in the day and too dark to take a clear photo. I would need to trust my memory (an unreliable prospect) to find her again earlier on another day, before she was damaged or removed. I am not sure how to describe this picture. It is a painting on newspaper, using only blue and white paint, fixed to the glass of this display case. I don't know what the numbers at the bottom mean. Simple. Beautiful.

In my attempt to search and find the picture of the lady and child above, I got terribly lost (of course!). While I was walking my search pattern, I came across some new alleyways and new things to photograph and old things to photograph again with better light.
