Chlorine is a element many of us have heard of before, maybe when our friends were opening up their pools. But what many people do not know is that it has played a big part in the history of the world.
- Discovered in 1774 by Swedish scientist Carl Wilhelm Scheel
- Found in earths crust and in ocean water
- Originally thought to contain oxygen
- Sir Humphery Davey proved it was a unique element
- Looks like a green gas
- The name chlorine is from the Greek word chloros meaning green
- Second halogen
- Heavier then air
- Often used as a bleach
- Disenfectant
- Used to clean swimming pools
- Makes paper white
- Fights infection
- Spray cans
- In world war 2 was used in mustard gas(so it is very toxic)
- Water dilutes chlorine making it less toxic
- It is still Toxic though
- Chlorine is what makes your eyes go blurry
- If you breathe chlorine , it will suffocate you
- If you put a fish in a pool it would die because it breathes the water
- Plants contain chlorine
- It helps develop organs
- If you breathe chlorine it will suffocate you
- Salt is one chlorine atom with one sodium atom
- 21st most common atom in earths outer crust
