Welcome to the Lakeview News

Artwork from Ms. Coghlan's class welcomes you to the latest edition of the Lakeview News. If you have photos that tell an important story or capture bright moment at Lakeview please sent them, with student names, to sthatcher@lwsd.org.

Incredible Classrooms

I am amazed by the rich, varied, and flat out fun learning activities that happen in our classrooms everyday. Far from "sitting and getting," Lakeview students enjoy engaging experiences everyday, from the music class above with Ms. Brackett in which students learned about body percussion and drumming, to the numerous snapshots you see in the slideshow below.

Lakeview's administrative intern

Ms. Keri Levinson, third grade teacher extraordinaire, is beginning an administrative internship that will continue through next year. Ms. Levinson already took the wheel for a number of days in May and June when Mr. Thatcher had to return to Eastlake High School to wrap up state testing and staff evaluations (just as Ms. Westra returned to Lakeview for a few days to do the same) and did an incredible job!

Ms. Levinson is in the Teacher Leadership Masters Program and the Principal Certification Program at Seattle Pacific Univeristy. She started teaching in 1997 in the Northshore SD and has taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, Science Resource, and has been a building and district math lead. She has three wonderful children and a dog. When her children were young and she was taking a break from teaching she ran a local chapter of Mothers of Preschoolers. She is a huge Seahawks fan.

We are very lucky to have Ms. Levinson at Lakeview, look for her increasingly in the main office!

Seahawk Steve Hauschka visits Madeline and Ms. Gahnberg's Class

Seahawk kicker Steve Hauschka visited Ms. Gahnberg's class on Friday to meet Madeline and her classmates. He read two books, one called I'm A Superhero that Madeline picked out about another child with cancern, and a class favorite, Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses. Ms. Gahnberg's little Leopard's taught him about Being Kind, Being Safe, and Working Hard. It was great to have him visit!

Your Feedback Needed Before June 17th

Look, I know I already talked about this in the May 28th PTSA News, but this is important: the annual parent survey closes on June 17th. We need every Lakeview family to complete it. This feedback is used for our planning and is extensively reviewed by myself, our building leadership team, and our staff. It matters.

Unfortunately we typically receive only a few dozen responses, which represents a small fraction of the over 400 Lakeview families, let alone the larger Lakeview community. So if you have already completed it, thank you, and if you have not yet taken that opportunity please do so now (it only takes about 10 minutes) and invite another Lakeview family you know to do the same.

Field Update

While there are several steps to go before construction can begin, Kirkland City Council has approved an agreement with LWSD for the construction of the turf field at Lakeview.
