Memorial Park Middle School FWCS REPAIR Building Renovation

RENOVATIONS AT memorial park middle SCHOOL OCCURRED OVER A 3 YEAR PERIOD STARTING IN 2013, WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE WORK COMPLETED BY THE FALL OF 2015. WORK INCLUDED BOTH EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ORIGINAL FACILITY, WHICH OPENED IN 1966.
A major component of the Memorial Park Middle School Renovation was the replacement of the poorly insulated, inefficient exterior curtainwall system. The old system (shown to the right) was completely removed and replaced with a new thermally broken, insulated window and metal panel wall system (shown on the left). The new window systems serve not only to give the building a fresh look, but more importantly to greatly increase the thermal efficiency of the building, ultimately resulting in lower utility costs.
Prior to the renovation the building was not air conditioned and the heating systems were in poor condition. The renovation included removal of all existing heating systems, the addition of a new central chiller plant and new temperature controls systems, which along with the improvements to the building envelope ensure optimal climate conditions for the students and staff no matter what the outside temperature.
After installation of the new infrastructure systems, corridors received new student lockers to replace the previous lockers that were in poor condition, tackable surfaces for display of student work, and new energy efficient LED lighting systems.
NON-COMPLIANT STAIR RAILINGS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW RAILINGS IN ADHERENCE TO AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT STANDARDS.
security and student safety are also major components of the repair fwcs program. secure vestibules which ensure that all visitors must go through the office area before being admitted to the rest of the building were added at all buildings receiving major renovations.
Classrooms also received a much-needed facelift along with the infrastructure improvements. New energy efficient lighting, heating improvements and added air conditioning, new ceilings, vct flooring, a fresh coat of paint and new marker and tackboards provide an optimal learning environment for students.
The cafeteria area was updated with new flooring, ceilings, lighting and HVAC systems. with some of the savings from the original project, an expansion to the kitchen and cafeteria is scheduled for completion during the summer of 2016. this will provide for a full cooking kitchen on-site, bringing it in line with district standards for middle schools.
the gymnasium received new ceilings, led lighting, and a fresh coat of paint.
As an Arts Magnet school, a special emphasis of Memorial Park Middle School are the band, choir and arts areas. Rooms received new lighting and HVAC systems, flooring and ceiling treatments, fresh paint and new instrument storage lockers. Special exhibit areas were included in corridors to showcase student artwork.
THE MEDIA CENTER FEATURES NEW LIGHTING, A LARGE CIRCULATION DESK, NEW FINISHES, AND MORE ROOM FOR STUDY AND COLLABORATION.
The renovations to Memorial Park Middle School, along with full renovations at 9 other school buildings, the addition of chillers at 6 additional buildings, window replacements at 8 additional buildings and partial roof replacements at 27 buildings was made possible by the support of our community.
