Smoky Mountain Air Show April 16 - 17, 2016

During the weekend of April 16 - 17, 2016, my family and I took in the Smoky Mountain Air Show at the Tennessee Air National Guard Base in Alcoa, TN.

Before the planes took to the skies, the Budweiser Clydesdales paraded the tarmac.

To open the show, we were presented with a member of the Navy's Leap Frogs dropping from a C-130 and displaying the Stars and Stripes. While coming down the Leap Frog was circled by the Aeroshell aerobatics team. Once the diver touched down, the Aeroshell team gave us a small taste of their demonstration, followed by a few more members of the Leap Frog team.

Before the headlining Blue Angles took to the sky, there was a plethora of acts to watch, including the cutting of a ribbon 40' from the ground with the prop of the plane, while flying upside down. Landing of a plane on a moving pick-up truck. And demonstrations from all the other planes.

Aeroshell Aerobatic Team

Just before the Blues took over the show, the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team took off and filled the sky with tons of smoke. With the skies being absent of clouds throughout the entire show, this team created their own clouds and helped make some fantastic shots.

"Fat Albert"

To get the show started, the Blue Angels introduced "Fat Albert" the teams C-130 transport plane that transports the team and supplies from show to show.

It's finally that time!
