SISATA was created out of our passion for Shakespeare, making theatre accessible and the Swanage Amphitheatre. Starting out with just a week’s run at this spectacular site in the Prince Albert Gardens in 2012, we have since grown and our annual show now tours to various locations and theatres across the South of England. Adapting to each location, we hope to bring classic stories alive and enable audiences to come enjoy, learn and laugh at our work and the worlds we inhabit. We bring to life classic texts adapted for four actors; producing energetic, fun and playful pieces of theatre which are suitable for all ages. We want our audiences to be part of storytelling that is enthralling and stimulating. This year SISATA is making the bold move away from Shakespeare to tackle a classic novel, which is rooted in the same beautiful countryside as the company. We bring you our version of Thomas Hardy’s infamous novel 'Tess of the d’Urbervilles'.

"Our impulses are too strong for our judgement sometimes."
"What are you going to do, Angel?"
Felix
"Very well, Miss Independence..." Alec d'Urberville
"I am sure I ought to be much obliged to you."
"Come you have not told me all."
"What's done can't be undone!" Joan Durbeyfield
"She's too good for a dairy maid." Mr Crick
"A prize for any man..."
"There he is again!" Izz Hewett
"I hope that is of no ill-omen for us now!"
"You must be deemed perfect today..." Angel Clare

Tess of the d’Urbervilles adapted and directed by Charmaine K Parkin.

Four actors play multiple roles in what is an enigmatic and fast paced telling of virtue, love and injustice, but above all the impact of this on the human condition. Our interactive and engaging performances aim to make universal classic tales interesting and enjoyable for all ages, and hopefully encourage an enthusiasm for Thomas Hardy’s work. We hope to bring to life the Wessex of the past and honour the beautiful countryside where the story takes place, whilst also highlighting the timeless issues that this story presents. However, in true SISATA style there will still be fun, interaction, laughter and song to tie together this heart-breaking tale.
