Moment of Truth Drama/Film Arts Collaboration

Bruised Perception: Moment of Truth Student Sample

This collaboration unit between grade 9 Film Arts students and grade 9 Drama students uses the Moment of Truth curriculum from Adobe Youth Voices to explore important moments and issues in the lives of the young people in our school community. The introductory activity for this unit can be found below. This resource page will help you track what we do in class.

After both classes have gathered to do the activity above, Film Arts students gather in their groups and brainstorm ideas for their moment of truth narrative film. What needs to be done at this stage:

To complete the tasks above you must have:

  • Selected roles for your actors
  • A shooting schedule that you use to make your call sheets
  • Selected roles for your filmmakers
  • Scouted locations
  • Selected costumes
  • Collected Props
Production and Editing

In this section you and your actors are recording the footage and each member must be on task and paying attention. Here are some steps and guidelines to consider.

Here are the "Look Fors" for this filmmaking assignment:

  • Is the story/narrative based on real life experience?
  • Does the script provide roles for each actor in our team?
  • Have we used camera framing and composition, movement and pacing to enrich the story and viewing experience?
  • Does the editing flow visually? ( A well edited film is one where the viewer does not notice the edits)
  • Did every one in the team feel they had a substantial role in the film?
  • Did every one contribute and stay on task
  • Does the story work?
  • Is there character development or growth?
