Days in the Life of a Missionary shara cunningham - march story newsletter

For the month of March I decided to try something new. Instead of my regular newsletter, I created a story that shows what a few days in the life of a missionary is like. Sometimes I spend days in the office in front of my computer checking emails, making phone calls and preparations for teams. There are days that I am in the field with a team for a week, and those days are very busy. Other times I am traveling to different countries to meet with church leaders or to prepare for a team. Lastly, there are days that I get to attend very special events. It is a blessing to serve the Lord in Eastern and Southern Africa and to share this journey with all who pray for me, support me financially and offer me words of encouragement.

A day trip to Tanzania

In preparation for an upcoming team, I needed to go to Tanzania to make some final arrangements for lodging and to meet with the bishop and one of the doctors who the team will be serving alongside. I took an early morning flight from Kenya to Tanzania. When I arrived I visited the hotel that the team will stay in to make the final decision. Then I was off to meet the bishop and then to meet with the doctor. There was a little delay so I waited at the Lutheran seminary for quite sometime. Finally, I had to go quickly to the clinic to pick up some documents and then back to the airport for my flight back to Kenya.

Easter Celebration

"Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen." Luke 24:5-6 On Easter Sunday I celebrated the glorious resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with my brothers and sisters at the Uhuru Highway Lutheran Cathedral. On this already special day, I was one of many witnesses to the baptism of six, one who is the daughter of my fellow missionary colleague Britt Odemba. Baby Rael became part of the family of Christ along with five others.

New Project 24 site - Lenkishon

On the last day of the month I attended the groundbreaking of the newest Project 24 site - Lenkishon. It was wonderful to be there with fellow missionary colleagues and co-workers for Christ from the ELCK (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya). Archbishop Walter Obare blessed the site for the new boarding facility with this verse..."He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8 (NIV) Rev. Shauen Trump, director for Eastern and Southern Africa thanked the community for walking alongside the LCMS and the ELCK. He said that the words of the Gospel will be heard everyday by the children in the facility and that the Gospel will go forth into the community through them. It was a wonderful occasion as Maasai women draped in brightly colored cloths and beautiful necklaces sang and danced.
