John F. Kennedy 35th United States President
John Fitzgerald Kennedy served as the President of the United States from 1961 until 1963. Born in Massachusetts in 1917, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was known as "Jack" among his large family. He would become the 35th president of the United States, the youngest man to ever take the office.
The Space Race was a mid-to-late 20th century competition between the Soviet Union and the United States for supremacy in space exploration. Kennedy turned to his vice-president, Lyndon Johnson, for programs and guidance to help NASA catch up with the Russians.
Boycotts, sit-ins and marches, along with other peaceful demonstrations, highlighted the inequities faced by African Americans.
Following his election in 1960, President Kennedy was informed of a military plan to invade Cuba and gave his consent. In April of 1961, the Bay of Pigs Invasion proved unsuccessful.
The Cuban Missile Crisis, the building of the Berlin Wall, and the beginnings of the Vietnam War were all associated with JFK’s short presidency as well.
Sadly, JFK is best known for being assassinated in Dallas, Texas in 1963.
