Secret Annex

Secret Annex

For atleast two years Anne Frank and her family lived in the Secret Annex where Anne’s father, Otto Frank, also had his business. Other people hid there with them. The doorway to the annex was behind a bookcase moved there for this reason. The office workers knew of the hiding place and helped the hidden people by supplying them with food and news of the world. On August 4, 1944, the hiding place was revealed. The people in hiding were deported to different concentration camps. Only Anne's dad survived the war.

Propaganda

Propaganda is a powerful thing. It can turn countries against each other, it can cause a world war. The last world war was caused by the amazing propaganda of Hitler. Hitler convinced an entire country to go against a religion. The country was in poverty and they thought of Hitler as their savior. Hitler made allies and declared war against people who resisted him. If the people who resisted him were German, he put them in the army. If they were Jewish he would send them to a concentration camp to work to death, die of hunger, or die of disease.

Act I Summary

In Act 1, Anne is starting to grow up. She was making faces at people behind their backs and she mimicked them. She was pretty immature. In scene 5 she becomes more mature and stops doing all of that. There was a thief in the building that got scared away by Peter when they were all trying to be silent and Peter fell. The thief was thought to be another worker in the building because that person the next day asked for a raise and asked if there was a door instead of the bookshelf where they were hiding. It was thought to be blackmail.
