Saddle Skedaddle Round 3 2016 Gorrick XC Spring Series

This weekend's Saddle Skedaddle Round 3 2016 or otherwise known as the Gorrick XC Spring Series Final Round, took place on Sunday 10th April 2016 at Frimley Green in Surrey. The course was a relentless twisting and turning single track course with a some interesting descents. Judging by some of the riders scuffs and tears to their kit it also caught a few riders out and there were clearly a few offs.

Conditions were dry, the course was fast, short and there was very little mud. The laps were approximately 4 miles which made for some quick racing. The photos above show riders approaching the Wedding Ring area of Single track. This was an area were the single track twisted and turned like an elaborate maze, great for spectators to watch but hard going for the riders.

There were some great downhill sections giving riders a chance to battle for positions in wide open spaces before getting back into the tight and twisty narrow single track.

This course was a new design and really showcased those working for Gorrick as the ultimate mountain bike trail builders. The course was technical, challenging, fast and twisting, everything you want as a cross country rider.

As a photographer it was interesting to note that most bikes ridden were geared 29ers. I often cover Endurance races with my team DaisyDogPhotos Endurance Riders and in these races you see a much wider bike choice, Single speeds, fully rigid bikes, fat bikes, retro 26ers and full sussers. At Sunday's race I saw a few 26ers, a few single speeds, very few fat bikes. Most people were racing 29er hardtails with a few top spec 29er full sussers.

Here I am caught in action taking photos for the race in my Boma 7 All Terrain Wheelchair manufactured by Molten Rock
