Catching Creativity Where Creativity, Pedagogy & Technology Intersect

Kindergarten

Sweeney: Kindergarten teachers spent time with their students creating green screen movie projects. Students talked about a favorite book or described an event in their journals then took a picture and tied together their project using the Do Ink app.

"It's like I'm in the book"

3rd Grade

Red Oak: A group of third graders spent some time app smashing this week with Farmyard, Pic Collage, and iMovie to create elapsed time story problems. The students are very excited to finalize and publish their videos in order for others to solve their problems.

5th Grade

Sweeney: Media Specialist Katie Bohn challenged her students to collaboratively program Spheros to match an obstacle design. Students received a course design, built the course, then programmed their Sphero to master the challenge!

Watch the video to hear students explain how they met the challenge and what they learned through the process.

6th Grade

Staff Meeting: Pearson teachers explored multiple technology stations to explore examples of how we can redefine teaching and learning. Stations included Google Cardboard, Google Cultural Institute, Spheros, Mystery Skype, virtual field trips, and setting up a YouTube channel.

Collaborative problem-solving: Pearson teacher Becky Gothmann designed a creative way to help her students prepare for the MCA math test. Using seven different stations, Becky incorporated a variety of different apps including Explain Everything, Pic Collage, Canvas, and Numbers. Students were given choice to explore each station and collaborate with one another to solve problems and strengthen their skills. It was fun to watch students actively engaged in math!

Junior High

East and West Junior Highs: Students are creating a commercial for the Money Doesn't Grow on Trees course. Students were using Do Ink Green Screen and iMovie to create a polished commercial to advertise a product. Some students also were using iMotion to create stop motion videos using Oreos. Students did a great job using their storyboards to scaffold their project and edit their commercial into a seamless and professional product.

Did you know? You can send messages to specific groups of students who scored below a certain percentage on a Canvas quiz or haven't turned in an assignment?
