With the introduction of the new Digital Technologies subject, the importance of Media Arts as a subject and the emphasis on students working with multimodal text throughout many subjects in the Australian Curriculum, it is more important than ever for teachers and students to be gaining 21st century communication skills with Adobe's industry standard creative tools.
Industry links
Skills in Adobe products is a core requirement for a wide range of jobs that involve 21st Century communication skills such as journalism, graphic design, marketing, web design, architecture, media communications, app development, game design & development, video production, film making, education & training and lots more. Many small and large business rely on Adobe applications to help them stay connected and look for applicants who have digital media communication skills.
What is the Adobe Creative Cloud?
The Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) is a collection of the most up to date versions of what was the Adobe Creative Suite plus lots more. The most recent of Adobe's industry standard web design, app design, 3D design, print, audio and video applications are available to download via Adobe CC.
Other Adobe applications that sit outside of CC that are commioly used in education include the free Adobe Spark apps, Adobe's wide range of free mobile applications, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Presenter, Adobe Presenter Video Express and more.
Creative Cloud in Australian Schools
Adobe's Creative Cloud software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Premier, Muse etc) is now (or soon will be) available in most Australian States and Territories for most education sectors either as an opt in arrangement or a centralised arrangement. See your IT manager or school Principal to find out if your school has access.
From Joel Aarons (Victorian Primary Teacher) - The Adobe Creative Cloud software is everything anyone needs to tap into students’ creative side of their brain. Adobe has an incredible network of educators and free resources that helps everyone from a complete Adobe newbie to an expert brushing up on their skills. I am a primary school teacher about to embark on teaching Media Arts as a specialty subject. I have already seen primary school students, from Foundation and up, benefit from exploring Adobe’s fantastic mobile app collection. Adobe does not limit what the kids can achieve. Only their imagination and willingness to work to build on their skills. Having Adobe Creative Cloud in the classroom is incredibly exciting and is absolutely the way to go when teaching our new, updated curriculum.
The EduTip sessions listed below will help introduce the value of many of these tools, especially to teachers who haven't used them before or are new to what Adobe has to offer education.
Presenters
The sessions will be run by Dr Tim Kitchen and Brian Chau. Tim was a teacher in Victoria for over 20 years before taking on the role as Adobe's Senior Education Specialist for Asia Pacific. Brian is an Adobe Solution Consultant based in Melbourne and an expert trainer in many Adobe applications.
