The Symposium on Environment and Displacement: Root Causes and Implications

The symposium will address one of the major humanitarian issues of our time: the current unprecedented numbers of refugees and forced migrants around the world. It will seek to understand how environmental degradation is driving human displacement and forced migration, and what climate change and growing resource scarcity might mean for such flows in future. Environmental implications of massive displacement in terms of rapid urbanization and poorly managed refugee camps and the necessary coordinated humanitarian response will also be addressed.

Taking place on Wednesday, 25 May 2016.

The Science-Policy Forum

The Forum will engage a wide audience of policy-makers, scientists, researchers, and civil society stakeholders in an active discourse on the science and knowledge required to deliver on the environmental dimension of sustainable development. It provides an innovative setting in which policy-makers, the research community and knowledge users can hear about the latest findings from UNEP’s GEO 6 Regional Assessments and many other new global and thematic assessments and reports and examine how science-policy processes can support future decision-making within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Taking place on 19-20 May 2016.

DO YOU KNOW...

that UNEA will be a sustainable and carbon neutral event?

UNEP is offsetting the emissions generated by the event's organization and by participants’ travel and accommodation, to make the upcoming UNEA a totally carbon neutral event.

It will also be a paperless meeting with Ipad & laptops offered to delegates to avoid unnecessary paper use and waste.

Delegates are encouraged to bring their own reusable bottles to reduce the use of plastic and their environmental footprint. Water dispensers will be available around the conference area.
