Mploy 2016 Career Skills Development for Young Adults on the Autism Spectrum and with Learning Differences

CIP has successfully launched a new employment readiness program, Mploy, for young adults age 18-26 with autism and other learning differences. This past session currently took place with housing aboard the Queen Mary ship in Long Beach, CA.

The Mploy curriculum is based on the career skills development and life skills training currently offered at CIP’s comprehensive year-round programs. Mploy is designed for young adults who are interested in entering the workforce and transitioning to independent living.

Mploy at CIP Long Beach

The CIP Long Beach center provided us with a great space to work on career development. Students worked on interview skills, filling out employment paperwork, and creating profiles on sites such as Career Builder and LinkedIn. Skills and tools such as these were utilized and developed throughout the 10-day program, giving the students the confidence to pursue their goals in employment.

Job Site Tours

Power 106

Students received a behind-the-scenes tour at one of the longest-standing radio stations in the LA area, Power 106. They learned about various jobs at the station, as well as the best path to take to get an internship or job there, or at similar radio stations.
The MPLOY group spent some time with Assistant Music Director and on-air personality Yesi Ortiz. Students gathered around her in the studio while she broadcasted live on air. They saw how Yesi interacted with DJ Felli Fel, and the sound editor who brought everything together on the spot.

Hollywood Bowl

Students listened to audio files and viewed pictures from the Beatles' visit to the Hollywood Bowl. The MPLOY group received a personal behind-the-scenes tour of the Bowl, went backstage, and sat in the dressing rooms that are frequented by the world's best known performers.
Students enjoyed spending time on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, seeing the famous Chinese and El Capitan Theatres on Hollywood Blvd. Here Jake and Kip stand in front of one of their favorite stars for director Martin Scorsese.

Angel Stadium of Anaheim

The students were able to tour the Angel Stadium facilities and observe the field being set up for a Monster Energy Supercross event.

Students also got to hear from Legends employees who cater and provide vending services for stadiums all across the country.

In the evening, students and staff enjoyed some time chilling out from the California sun. They enjoyed the Chill event at the Queen Mary, which included an indoor winter experience complete with ice skating, a giant slide, ice sculptures, and a Frozen maze.

Mploy 2017

The students were very dedicated to the program and were amazing to work with. The staff was also amazing and enjoyed working with these students in providing a quality learning experience. It was a lot of work to put this together, but well worth every minute to make sure it was the best experience the students could have. We are looking forward to the future of MPLOY in Long Beach as well as sharing it with the rest of our centers throughout CIP. Anchors Away to 2017!
