The 2017 Wintershines Blizzard Triathlon is fast approaching. This annual event is on February 4, 2017 and includes skating, cross country skiing and running. Held in conjunction with the Saskatoon Wintershines festivities, the event is organized by the Saskatoon Road Runners Association, the Saskatoon Triathlon Club,.
Citizen and Challenge Events: Race starts at 9 am, February 4, 2017 at the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval, adjacent to Holiday Park Golf Course. There are two major events - the Citizen Race and the Challenge Race. Both include a 4km skate (or 1.5 km snowshoe), an 8km ski (either classic or skate ski), and a 5km run. The Citizen event is self-timed and non-competitive while the Challenge event is timed. Both races are $15 per person. NOTE: these events can be done solo, or as part of a team.
Youth Challenge Event: This event is designed for youth aged 10 to 14. (NOTE: youth 14+ can enter the Citizen and Challenge events). The Youth Challenge event is a 2k skate, 2k ski, and 2k run. $15 per person.
Family Fun Relay: Teams of two (parent/child) for children under 6. Older children may choose to do the Family fun event as a solo or as a relay with partner The relay will consist of a skating portion and a snow run/obstacle course portion on the snowshoe course. Both team members must remain together and complete the relay distances and obstacles. Cost is $15 per team, or $5 for a solo older child.
