@BoilerBall 87, Michigan 70 Purdue scorches the nets in the second half en route to its second big ten win of the year

A.J. Hammons scored 17 points with five rebounds, four blocks and a season-high three assists while going 7-of-10 from the field. This first-half dunk was his 100th career dunk at Purdue.

Hammons also hit his only 3-point try of the night and is now 4-of-4 on the season from long distance. Since the 1995-96 season, just eight players nationally have gone at least 4-of-4 from 3-point range for a season.

  • 4-of-4: A.J. Hammons (Purdue; 2015-16)
  • 5-of-5: David McKinley (Ohio; 2012-13)
  • 4-of-4: William Cooper (Eastern Michigan; 2007-08)
  • 4-of-4: Artis Gant (Long Beach State; 2005-06)
  • 6-of-6: Jeff Severinghaus (Davidson; 2002-03)
  • 4-of-4: J.T. Dolan (Marist; 2000-01)
  • 4-of-4: Roman Cespedes (Seton Hall; 1998-99)
  • 4-of-4: Darin Raper (Indiana State; 1997-98)

Hammons is the only player on the list to have more than 50 field goal attempts.

Hammons has now scored in double-figures in six straight games and is averaging 16.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game while shooting 44-of-62 (.710) from the field during that span.

"Post defense is something you try to work at, and then you play the best in the country at post offense. And it's an eye opener." -- Michigan coach John Beilein
Hammons now has 298 career blocked shots, needing two to become the eighth player in Big Ten history with 300 career blocked shots. He has blocked at least four shots in a game 34 times during his career.
“Hammons just affects the game. It’s very rare that you see that right now — a great shot-blocker like he is, it really deflates you.” -- Michigan coach John Beilein

Rapheal Davis scored 16 points with a season-high six assists and five rebounds while going 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Davis went 2-of-5 from 3-point range and is now 16-of-38 (.421) for the season from long distance. He is also shooting 30-of-36 (.833) from the free throw line.

Davis also led a defensive effort that held Michigan to 37.7 percent shooting. The Wolverines entered the game shooting 50.9 percent from the field.

Vince Edwards had another strong floor game with 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot in 25 minutes. It marked his first double-figure scoring game since Dec. 7, and he is now averaging 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two career games against Michigan.

Johnny Hill returned to the starting lineup and responded with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 19 minutes.

Hill scored all 10 of his points in the second half and led a late second-half run to lift Purdue to its second straight win over the Wolverines.

Johnny Hill had a monster dunk during the second-half run that was named the No. 6 play on Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays of the Day. It's the second time he has been featured this year (block vs. IUPUI was No. 4).

Caleb Swanigan tallied seven points and seven rebounds and now has 141 rebounds on the season. He needs just one more rebound to move into the Purdue freshman top-10 list for rebounds in a season. He has played a mere 16 games.
P.J. Thompson gave Purdue a boost in the first half, scoring five straight points during a key run to turn a deficit into an 8-point advantage. Thompson finished with eight points, two assists and one steal in 19 minutes. He did not commit a turnover for the ninth time (in 16 games) this year.
Kendall Stephens recorded his first career dunk with this baseline drive and finished with five points and two assists. He gave Purdue a boost in the first half with five of the Boilermakers' first seven points.
Dakota Mathias continues to shoot the ball well, converting on a pair of big 3-pointers in the second half. Mathias finished with six points (2-of-3 3-pointers), four assists and three rebounds. Mathias is now 7-of-14 (.500) from long distance in Big Ten play.
Isaac Haas scored seven points with three rebounds in 10 minutes of action while going 3-of-5 from the field. Over the last two games, Haas has scored 13 points with nine rebounds in just 25 minutes while shooting 6-of-9 from the field.

Purdue now travels to Illinois on Sunday, looking to remain perfect on the road, in what should be another challenge for the Purdue defense. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.

The No. 20-ranked Boilermakers next home game is Jan. 13, against Penn State. The students are back, so let's pack Mackey and keep this thing moving forward!
