Adobe & the State of Hawaii

HONOLULU – As part of the Ige Administration’s effort to move Hawaii's state government toward a more efficient “paperless” environment, the Office of the Governor has begun using Adobe Document Cloud for Enterprise eSign Services and will be processing all documents electronically, starting Oct. 1, 2015.

The State Government invited Team @AdobeGov to present our entire product portfolio at a specially targeted Adobe Technology Day in early November 2015.

So long, California!

Inspiration & Signage

For my presentation on Nov 4th, I needed to capture visual inspiration from my surroundings -- which in Hawaii is not at all difficult. This "Men at Work" sign would work perfectly with my infographic demo and Adobe's mobile capture app.

Detour to Kona

Took a quick 21-hour excursion to the big island of Hawa'ii to visit my lovely sister-in-law Jessica and her husband Steve who live on the Kona side.

So great to have family in this state!
Visited the only Costco in America with bulk Kona coffee :-)
Pu Pu platters on the beach! Can't get better...
Pretty swanky place for dinner
A plump Day Gecko seen at breakfast -- not an indigenous animal!

Coffee Plantation Tour

Got to check out a real live Kona Coffee plantation with my one free hour on Tuesday before heading back to Honolulu.

A 20-acre plantation which has a patent on Trellis Farming for coffee plants. Trellis Farming is the practice of training fruit-bearing branches onto horizontal wires for the purpose of better sun and moisture exposure. It creates more richness and robustness for the beans, but is much more manually intensive to produce.
Red coffee cherries are hand-picked during the Fall/Winter harvest months. Each cherry contains two beans (pictured), which must be extracted, washed, dried, hulled (twice), weighed, sized, then roasted and packed.
Green coffee beans after extraction, washing, drying and hulling. Some coffee cherries contain only one bean (pictured right), called Peaberries. These have only a 3% incidence, and generally have a higher density than most beans, which is why they are separated.
The sizing/sorting machine. The "Extra Fancy" bag on the far left contains the largest, densest beans. One pound costs $75 US!

Adobe Day @ State of Hawaii

In 2015, digital constituencies demand that government offer the same capabilities of leading banks and commercial service companies. Citizens want to not only transact and receive services from government online, but they also want to be included in the wider social and digital dialogue. Traditional, costly means of communication no longer satisfy these technology-savvy customers, creating an urgent need for digital solutions that can provide government entities with effective tools to integrate traditional information vehicles with cohesive, multichannel public service, and engagement strategies.

Beautiful Sights

Using the latest Adobe Creative Cloud tools and apps, I delivered a comprehensive overview of our platform using a combination of color swatches, typographic styles, brushes, photos, graphics and stock imagery from Adobe Stock.

Decompressing

After a long day of business, Team @AdobeGov relaxed and socialized at Morimoto, a fabulous and famous Honolulu restaurant. Excellent food and company!

Dinner together after a successful day!
Lovely thank you gifts from Christina, our team lead and account exec, for a job well done!
Morimoto's Chocolate Peanut Butter Bombe, which is milk chocolate crèmeux, peanut dragée, and salted peanut ice cream
Kumar's chocolate, green tea and butterscotch sorbets

Diamondhead Hike

On Christina's recommendation, I did the quick 45 minute hike up/down Diamondhead State Monument, which is a volcanic crater a mile away from Waikiki Beach. There happened to be a US Army helicopter exercise occurring right as I arrived, which was great eye candy!

20 minutes up? No problem! (huff huff)

Made it to the top! Now a quick dash to the airport!
