2016 Lobo Football Former Player Golf Outing At Isleta Resort

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, nearly 75 former Lobo football players, from as far back as 1952 made their way back to the Duke City for a fantastic day of food, fun and golf. The Former Player Golf Outing was hosted this year at Isleta Resort just south of Albuquerque.

Plenty of former players were at Isleta at 11 am for food and a short program featuring several coaches and speakers.

Last year's Former Player Golf Outing is where Lobo Football debuted the "Lobo Helmet Project", where fans can donate $500 for a new game worn helmet. The funds were used to help UNM get an entire new set of charcoal helmets. Those helmets were on display at the event last season, and this year, three new white helmets were on display as the "Lobo Helmet Project" will continue for another season. With your help, we can get these new lids on the field, and then onto you office shelf or mantle at home!

Guest speakers included coordinators Bob DeBesse and Kevin Cosgrove, along with new staff members Aurmon Satchell (Strength and Conditioning) and Vince Natali (Director of Recruiting). Natali's talk had plenty of former players ready to slap the pads on, including Ryan Cook, DJ Renteria, Frank Sedillo, John Urban ... even Bobby Santiago!

After the program it was time for fun on the course. For the former players, this is truly about them. They pay a small fee for the course, and that's it. It's not a fundraiser to get money, it's not a deal where you have to buy mulligans and purchase food. In fact, teams could play four balls...best ball, scramble...whatever they liked. This is truly a thank you to the men who have donned the Cherry and Silver for The University of New Mexico. A thank you for their tireless work, how they have given back to our community, and to show them that they are always a Lobo, and always a part of the Lobo Football Program. Chuck Kelly (who played on the WAC title teams in the early 1960s) said, "I lived in the heart of the midwest...Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio State were all close ... none of them do what this staff and Coach Davie do for the former players. It means a tremendous amount to all of us."
