San Francisco's Pedal Revolution Who we are and what we do

At Pedal Revolution in San Francisco’s Mission District, we believe a bicycle can change your life. It can change your commute, your neighborhood, your family, your workplace, your world, and your future.

We’re a full-service bike shop. We’re also a nonprofit social enterprise.

Here are answers to the questions we’re asked most:

What kinds of products and services do you offer?

Pedal Revolution offers personalized sales of bike products, including new bikes, parts, accessories, and custom used bikes that are refurbished from the frame up. We also offer expert mechanical service, repair, and customization — and we even rent bikes by the hour, day, and week.

Does “nonprofit” mean you give away bikes for free?

No. We’re a business, so we charge for all of our products and services. But we operate as a nonprofit because we have a larger mission than making money.

Okay, so what does it mean that you’re a nonprofit social enterprise?

Pedal Revolution is a social enterprise of New Door Ventures, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. New Door is inspired by the belief that all youth should have the opportunity to make the transition to a fulfilling, economically sustainable adulthood.

Pedal Revolution aims to help disconnected youth in San Francisco get ready for work and life by providing them with paid internships, job-skills training, educational resources and a supportive community.

The money we earn supports the operation of the shop and training youth. The more we sell, the more youth we can train and employ!

Our professional mechanics and staff train and guide our paid youth interns to help assemble new bikes and refurbish used ones. Our interns also get hands-on training in sales, customer service, and inventory management.

What’s more, we help spread the benefits of biking — in terms of health, the environment, and community-building — throughout our neighborhood, across San Francisco, and beyond

Since you’re a nonprofit, do you buy used bikes from people off the street to keep costs down?

We want to avoid encouraging bike thieves, so we never buy used bikes. The used bikes we refurbish come to us as donations. If you have an old bike collecting dust in your garage and would like to consider donating it, please see our guidelines. here.

Support our mission!

If you’re interested in biking and helping young people and our community, here are three ways you can support Pedal Revolution:

1. Buy our products and repair services.

2. Donate your used bike — it’s tax deductible!

3. Buy from New Door’s other social enterprise: Ashbury Images

Ashbury Images provides printed and embroidered apparel and custom-designed promotional products for corporations, universities, and nonprofits.

4. Make a cash donation to support our work.

All donations support training and employing youth — getting them ready for work and life.

Together, we can bike our way to a cleaner, safer, brighter future.

Always lots going on at Pedal Revolution
