As a junior, Kobe went 44-0 on his way to the 220-pound title and helped Penn High School capture its first team Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) state championship.
In his senior campaign, Kobe went 32-5 and placed seventh at 220 pounds. He posted a 41-5 record as a sophomore wrestling at 195 pounds and placed seventh in his second trip to the IHSAA tournament. He also qualified at 220 as a freshman.

"Kobe has accomplished a lot in a relatively short wrestling career. He has tremendous potential and we think the sky could be the limit for him." - Tony Ersland

Kobe's success continues. He was a 100 kg finalist at the 2015 Cadet World Team Trials. In 2014 he returned home to Mishawaka, Indiana, as the 195-pound Cliff Keen USA Wrestling Cadet Folkstyle champion.
That same year he placed second in freestyle at 195 at the ASICS/Vaughan Cadet Nationals.

"Kobe plays more of a power game; he is very explosive and very powerful. He's a guy that can knock you out of your shoes and put you on the ground pretty quick. As he learns more about positioning and technique, we see him getting a lot better." - Tony Ersland

"Coach Ersland is an amazing guy, a very kind individual. Talking to him really assured me that I would be in good hands here coaching wise.

"Coach Todd is the perfect coach for me. He is 197 and that’s my ideal weight class. To have a drill partner with so much knowledge is awesome and it will really make me grow as a wrestler." - Kobe Woods

"It's my goal to keep the best talent here at home. We believe Indiana has some of the finest talent in the country and we can do great things if we can keep that talent in state." - Tony Ersland

"Kobe [has been] a pretty good friend of mine for years. We both have always had the same goals as one another, so having the opportunity to pursue team together on the same team is huge." - Shawn Streck
"I think it's similar to Devin Schroder and Nate Limmex; Kobe and Shawn are going to push each other and only make the culture on our team stronger having that tight-knit bond and that's a great thing." - Tony Ersland

kobe chose purdue because...

"I have always dreamed of being a Boilermaker. For me to continue my wrestling career is a dream come true. I’m really excited to see all the hard work and the extra hours are starting to pay off."

"I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me at Purdue! Boiler Up!"
