A Levels at DBGS Securing a bright future

A Levels at Dhahran British Grammar School are an excellent route into further education at degree level. A Levels are recognised by universities around the world and are a good preparation for advanced study.

Ideal continuity with the IGCSE Programme

In the Sixth Form at DBGS, students follow Cambridge AS levels in Year 12, followed by A Levels in Year 13.

Usually, students study four subjects for AS in Year 12. Three of these subjects are then studied at the higher level in Year 13.

A Levels provide ideal continuity with the IGCSE programme, stretching and developing students as they take more responsibility for their own learning. At DBGS we have a strong, professional teaching staff, small classes and a pleasant, safe environment.

Preparing for university entry is a stressful time in a student's life. For some, the time is well spent at boarding school. For others, however, we believe that the security of a small school, a familiar environment and being with your family offers an important level of support that contributes to success.

Cambridge International AS and A Levels are used by thousands of students every year to gain places at top universities worldwide. They are taken by over 175,000 learners in more than 125 countries.

Cambridge learners are confident in working with information and ideas; responsible for themselves and respectful of others; reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn; innovative and equipped for new and future challenges; engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference.

In 2016/17 we will be offering maths, chemistry, physics, biology, English literature, geography, psychology, history, French, economics, business studies, physical education and art. Each subject requires a minimum of 180 hours of instruction per year. This works out at 8 lessons per week per subject.

Private study time is an important part of the A Level programme. Students need to learn to be able to direct their time and use it effectively. These skills become increasingly important when they make the transition to university. In our A Level programme students spend time on individual study, researching universities and careers, taking PSHE and Ministry required studies.

Salasil. Students are encouraged to do the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award in Saudi Arabia

Universities want more than qualifications in the best candidates. They are looking for things that set students apart from their peers. DBGS helps here by providing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, a highly respected programme worldwide. This year students will undertake their expedition in Cyprus. Next year they will have the opportunity to trek to Everest Base Camp or go on an expedition to Oman.
