Eblock, a young brand with a long history to tell
In the year 2012 Giovanni Sommavilla and Umberto Valentini, both driven by their long personal experience in the area of production and commercialisation of spectacle frames, gave birth to the brand Eblock, a mono-concept collection that is based on the revolutionary and patent lens locking system called Easy Block.
The success in Italy is immediate: the exquisite design, the quality of the product, the fast delivery, the reliability and competence of the customer care are only some of the brand’s values that capture and convince the customers. Moreover, the vast choice of different models and the ability to renew the product continuously while maintaining its distinctive identity complete the picture of a success story on the Italian market, which is repeating itself on an international scale.
Eblock exists thanks to the competence and the expertise of SOM Eyewear, a company based in Cadore - in the heart of the spectacle production district - that in 40 years of activity has been able to distinguish itself on the market by developing competence in the field of technology and project planning. It is this level of competency that makes this company a reference point for high quality production in the sector. The authenticity of the EBlock design, its innovative construction and the quality define the very basics of a manufactural process that includes all the positive values of a product “Made in Italy”.
The center of the Grand Cru in the spectacle frame production
No great wine can be made without great soil. There would be no Eblock without Som Eyewear. Eblock is the brand but Som is the expertise and the Cadore Valley, at the centre of the eyewear production district, is the soil. One special Grand Cru of the spectacle frame production exists here, in these grim mountains, in the heart of the Dolomites.
The most prepared technicians work here, innovative companies are stated here, talented designers and the most trustworthy and competent suppliers can be found right here. It is right here where SOM began to write its own history more than 40 years ago and to develop its competence in the field of project planning equipping itself with the most advanced technology. Thanks to the optimisation of the production process, the company becomes a point of reference for the sector and peaks this success by creating its own brand.
Quality at the right price, the mission Eblock
When we invented EBlock we had a mission: we wanted to distribute a high quality product with a sophisticated design at an affordable price. There are many products on the market, which are either of only modest quality and living of the value of a certain brand name or of high quality paying many regards to a sophisticated design but recommended at an equally evolved price range.
The acknowledgeable quality of EBlock can be offered at the “right price” because we put our utmost attention in the optimisation of our production line. EBlock thus becomes a product of interest for a broad range of customers. Another vital part of our mission is to keep our clients in the highest regard, we respect hard work and we value all choices. We attend to the needs of the opticians as well as the end customer with attention and continuous support - both in pre- and after sales.
Maybe it is too ambitious to talk of an “ethical mission”? We leave that answer up to you. We think that the authenticity of the EBlock design, its patient construction process and the quality of the engaged materials define the very basics of a manufactural process that contains all the positive values that a product “Made in Italy” must have. Easy Block, the core of the Eblock system
Easy Block is a unique, technologically advanced locking system that makes the process of fastening lenses easy and safe. The optician can in fact secure the lenses with a programmed tension that will not damage it, nor in the assembly phase nor in the case of intense use by the user.
Lenses can only be replaced thanks to the use of a special key, at the disposal of the optician, combined with a precision metallic spacer, that locks the block (instead of a screw) and adjusts the closing of the eye rim.
Original Collection: the first, the distinctive, the matchless
We achieve the distinctive look of the front pieces of our Original collection by matching the colours of the bushing blocks and the temples. Since its very first presentation it became an iconic frame in our Eblock collection because of its’ timeless design and its’ availability in a broad colour range.
The models of our Original collection are special because of their colourful block that is positioned on the front piece and coordinates with the colour of the temples. Singular because of its youthful design it has been the first frame ever to be branded Eblock. A fresh and dynamic shaped frame that has already become a classic!

Eblock Side is based on three different collections: Side One, Side Circle and Side Wire.
Side Collection Easy Block Cube moves to the side
Characteristic for the frames of the Side Collection is the fact that the Easy Block Cube (bushing block) is moved from the front piece to the temple. Thanks to the Side Collection, the range of the Eblock family is broadened: new colours and textures are introduced as well as even more sophisticated frame shapes that are elevating the engaged metal along with new colour variations in gold and copper.
We wanted to keep the characteristic design of our EBlocks but at the same time, we wanted to moderate the strong impact of the front piece of our “Original” frames. So we moved the Easy Block cube from the front piece to the temples. The result is of an elegant and classy design.
B-Side Collection: double the fun by combining an acetate frame with a metal one
To reach perfect harmony Eblock combines an acetate frame with a metal one starting a symphony of elegant combinations in textures and colours in order to revalue the mono-concept Eblock frame with its exclusive locking system.
