OUR MISSION

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND INSPIRATIONAL CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS

OUR DESIRED OUTCOME IS:

  • A cohesive, dynamic and challenging academic program, which provides every student with an opportunity to succeed.
  • A continued sense of community and promotion of social-emotional and ethical learning that inspires our students to be a compassionate force for social good.
  • An integrated and interdisciplinary program where each student emerges equipped with the tools and capacity to practically address the most pressing global problems for a better world.

WE WILL:

  • Further pursue an in-depth K–12 curriculum evaluation and review, to ensure alignment with our new mission statement and reflect a commitment to best practices in pedagogy and inclusion.
  • Implement best practices in using student data from internal and external assessments to inform curriculum review and guide student learning.
  • Increase courses taught in multiple languages, deepening our commitment to language learning.
  • Augment the reach of the college office to best support the ambitions of our students as they advance to universities and colleges around the world.
  • Expand offerings that broaden the theater and arts programs, taking advantage of the richness of New York City and the diversity of languages spoken within our community.
  • Develop a clearly articulated K-12 approach to service learning that provides engaging local and global opportunities for students to develop as compassionate, pro-active leaders with integrity and strength.

DYNAMIC AND INNOVATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

OUR DESIRED OUTCOME IS:

  • A fluid and flexible campus, which supports radically-personalized learning experiences and provides formal spaces for creative experimentation and calculated risk-taking.
  • A campus that serves as a forum and networking hub, providing ample meeting space to host international conversations that promote new ideas, discoveries, and applications and opportunity for students to connect with local professionals and learn real-life skills in a meaningful context.
  • A campus that promotes wellness and sustainability where a student’s daily life is fully integrated with movement, daylight, air and nature, providing the breathing room students need to inquire, contemplate and synthesize.

WE WILL:

  • Develop, in consultation with the school’s architects, a Campus Master Plan that guides the construction of modern learning spaces that are agile and active, flow naturally together, and build a sense of community.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that support UNIS’ commitment to sustainability, minimizing environmental impact and reduce energy consumption of our buildings, while contributing to the health of our community members.
  • Upgrade existing arts and athletic facilities to meet full programmatic needs.
  • Ensure that our campuses continue to meet the best possible standards for safety, security and technology.

ENHANCED AND MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE UNITED NATIONS

OUR DESIRED OUTCOME IS:

  • Enhanced relationships with the United Nations, the diplomatic community, and nongovernmental organizations that will benefit the school’s development and student learning through real-world experience.

WE WILL:

  • Provide opportunities in association with the United Nations, diplomatic community, and nongovernmental organizations for mentoring, internships, and signature events.
  • Expand and build upon opportunities for authentic learning, designed in partnership with and facilitated by staff of the United Nations and diplomatic community.
  • Further enrich the K-12 curriculum and after-school programs by incorporating United Nations components where appropriate.
  • Strengthen and formalize collaboration with the United Nations and diplomatic community regarding advancement efforts.

OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS SUPPORTED BY STRONG PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

OUR DESIRED OUTCOME IS:

  • A highly qualified, diverse, and dynamic faculty and staff.
  • A professional culture of focused collaboration, continuous improvement, and mutual support that inspires improved learning outcomes for students.

WE WILL:

  • Recruit to ensure a diverse faculty that reflects the richness of our student body.
  • Offer competitive compensation and benefits to attract and retain an outstanding faculty and staff.
  • Continue to pursue best practices and implement effective and ordered processes for faculty and staff accountability and evaluation.
  • Create opportunities for annual reflection and development where teachers receive regular feedback linked to a shared vision of effective teaching and their professional learning goals.
  • Align the professional development program for faculty and staff with the educational issues identified by our strategic priorities.

INCREASED SHORT AND LONG-TERM FINANCIAL STABILITY

OUR DESIRED OUTCOME IS:

  • Alignment between revenue sources and long-term and short-term strategic needs.
  • Reserves for annual capital projects built through optimal student enrollment and increased advancement revenues.
  • A successful capital campaign to support the Campus Master Plan, which includes an enhanced endowment.
  • Enhanced financial aid support to be inclusive of students, both locally and globally, who might otherwise not have access and thereby enriching our community.

WE WILL:

  • Maintain consistent enrollment and provide prudent oversight and careful planning to ensure long-term financial stability for UNIS.
  • Broaden outreach to our school community, including alumni, the diplomatic community, and Honorary Trustees who are able to support us in securing continued financial stability for UNIS.
  • Attain full parent participation in the UNIS Fund, strengthening our position to reach out to foundations for grants to support innovative educational programs.
  • Further explore additional sources of revenue other than tuition.
  • Continue to raise and invest funds to grow the UNIS endowment.
  • Host signature events to celebrate our unique educational programs and increase fundraising.

MISSION-BASED OUTREACH TO LOCAL, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES

OUR DESIRED OUTCOME IS:

  • An identity, educational philosophy, and brand that is clearly understood and articulated by our community and partners.

WE WILL:

  • Offer a clearly defined and articulated profile of UNIS to communities of interest, including students, parents, teachers, alumni, and universities.
  • Foster a great sense of community pride by communicating achievements and successes.
  • Develop and launch an external communications plan that highlights the best of UNIS to local, national, and international audiences.
