Navatman 2015 Highlights, 2016 Goals

Navatman is working to implement new ways to think about Indian classical music and dance.

Utilizing strong community support and presence from patrons, students, and donors (that means you!) Navatman continuously works within the delicate balance of upholding tradition and breaking the mold.

In just five years, Navatman has accomplished what many other organizations take decades to do:

Navatman Dance

The Dance Company has gone on two tours and produced 3 new ballets in just five years and is becoming a go-to company for performances in the tri-state area.

This year, artistic director Sahasra Sambamoorthi returned to the solo stage in a rave performance.

We were sought out for performances at Lincoln Center, the MET, and many other prestigious venues

The dance company even had a sold out audience for the world premiere of our new production, "If the Gods Danced", featuring prestigious guest choreographers.

Navatman Dance - Budget for 2015, Estimates for 2016

You can see - we did all of this with zero marketing budget and no donations - to gain a 15% profit of $600. Investing in Navatman Dance for 2016 will allow us to pay our musicians properly, add a second night to our season, and reach a much larger audience by investing in marketing.

Navatman Dance is raising $5000 for next year's season.

Navatman Music Collective

The Music Collective, founded just one year back, is making waves as one of the only carnatic choirs in the world.

With a sold out world premiere series of shows, NMC has been making waves since its inception

They got to perform to Mani Ratnam and Aruna Sairam, who both gave their blessings and enthusiasm to the group. As Aruna Sairam said, "May this be a group that makes history."

We closed out the year recording an album which will be released in 2016 and sold on iTunes.

Music Collective Revenue and Expenses: World Premiere Show and 2016 Estimates

The Music Collective has proven itself to be a great investment as well - garnering both donations and a fair amount of ticket sales in just the first year of its existence. With a profit gain of 10% on their world premiere show, giving to the Music Collective will go towards marketing their album (and in turn, marketing their second full length production) and paying musicians fair wages.

The Music Collective is raising $5000 for the marketing of their album release and the creation of new work.

Drive East 2016

Drive East, one of the premiere festivals for Indian classical music and dance in the US, was founded 3 years back.

Now in its fourth year, Drive East has been critically acclaimed by New York Times and other major publications for all three years of it's existence.

It continues to be one of the most ambitious classical Indian arts festivals in the world, presenting 26 concerts in just one week (second only to the December festival)

This year, it brought together 50+ artists and 2000+ arts lovers, with the average of age of patrons well below the national average of classical arts lovers.

Drive East 2015 Actual Revenue and Expenses alongside 2016 estimate

Drive East has always been a break even proposition, all the while reaching great numbers of patrons, audiences, and press with its high quality programming. With the oncoming year, we look forward to creating a greater outreach, only possible with a larger investment in marketing, artist fees, and staff -

Drive East is asking for $20,000 to invest in marketing and personnel.

The school, alongside these projects, continues to reach great heights: with a second arangetram under its belt in music, and students now prepped and winning trophies at competitions. The Navatman School includes North Indian and South Indian dance and music forms, part of a very small percentage of schools in the world that does so. With over 10 teachers and 150 students, teaching over 500 since its inception, it has already inspired other organizations to follow in its footsteps.

Join the movement, music, and move forward with Navatman by donating, volunteering, or attending events. We'd love to see you.
