St. Bonaventure University marked Arbor Day on April 29, 2016, by planting a tree to honor University President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D., who is stepping down as the university's 20th president in July. The president offered her gratitude, saying she loves the beauty of the campus and considers often the trees that witness each generation.
The tree that was planted is an Ulmus ‘Frontier’ Elm. The Elm is said to signify inner strength in the realm of intuition. This particular species of Elm is also highly resistant to disease. We believe both of these characters lay the foundation of a fitting tribute to Sr. Margaret Carney.
