Noel de Cordova Jr. "Buzz" Shell Dedication April 24th, 2016

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist College and the Marist Rowing program joined together to dedicate a shell in memory of longtime Marist supporter and community leader Noel de Cordova, Jr. “Buzz” Sunday afternoon.

The magnificent Vespoli 8-oared racing shell that was dedicated on Sunday was made possible by the Jane W. Nuhn Charitable Trust and Trustees Edward V.K. Cunningham and Michael de Cordova. Cunningham and Noel de Cordova, III and Michael de Cordova along with Michael’s daughter Claire joined Director of Rowing Tom Sanford and Marist’s Director of Athletics Tim Murray for the shell’s special dedication.

“We are thrilled and appreciative. To have members of the de Cordova family present along with alumni and current athletes and families as we unveiled our newest racing shell was very special to all of us.”

- Director of Rowing Tom Sanford

Buzz had a lifelong dedication to the sport of rowing. He rowed in the famed Poughkeepsie Regatta for many years as coxswain of Cornell University's Men's Heavyweight Varsity Crew. Buzz was also a highly respected business and community leader having served as a Poughkeepsie Town Councilman and as a Director/Member/Trustee for numerous organizations including the Jane W. Nuhn Charitable Trust, Vassar Brothers Hospital Association, the Bardavon 1869 Opera House, and Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt Institute, to name a few.

In the spirit of Buzz’s intense competitiveness, devotion to the sport of rowing, and his love for the Hudson River Valley, Marist is honored to dedicate this shell in his memory. It will serve as an inspiration to our student-athletes and keep Buzz’ legacy alive on the Marist College campus.

After the dedication the Marist Rowing program celebrated senior day and took part in the President’s Cup Regatta against Army and Vassar on the Hudson River.
