Tappy Holidays Thoroughly Modern Millie At BDT Stage

Thoroughly Modern Mille by Jeanine Tesori, and new lyrics by Dick Scanlan. Book by Dick Scanlan and Richard Morris. Original story and screenplay by Richard Morris for the 1967 Universal Pictures film

BDT Stage artistic director Michael J. Duran is noted for programing non-holiday shows for the holidays. This year's choice is the big tap dance show, Thoroughly Modern Millie.

“This show is a high-energy tapping extravaganza!” exclaims BDT artistic director Michael J. Duran. “With Seles [VanHuss] as our leading lady, and a robust cast of tap- dancing veterans like Burke Walton as Jimmy, Scott Severtson as Graydon, and Rebekah Ortiz as Millie’s hysterically clueless best friend, it’s going to be a party at BDT this winter!”

Even if you don't know the Julie Andrews/Mary Tyler Moore film (which also feature Carol Channnig) you can still have a good time with this meringue of a show.

In 1922, young Millie Dillmount from Kansas high-tails it to The Big Apple in search of a new life. Armed with a shorter hemline and a grand plan to marry a wealthy man, she’s ready to secure her future as a “modern” woman. However, her plan goes completely awry when the man she actually falls in love with doesn't have a dime to his name.

The evening delivers on Singing, Tapping, and Hospitality...(SPEED TEST is a special highlgiht) The choreography by Matthew D. Peters (with additional tap choreography by Danielle Scheib) lives up to the challenging spirit of the original Broadway production.
