The Story may be familiar.

Death wants to understand why people fear him so he decides to spend a weekend among the living. The story has been a film with Fredric March, and early 70's TV movie with Bert Convey, and the 1998 Brad Pitt adaptation Meet Joe Black

This musical adaptation is set up by the Arvada Center this way. "After sparing a young woman who is in a fatal car crash, Death returns to walk among the living, hoping to understand why he chose to save her."

This could bee seen as a supernatural romance, a melodrama, or even a comedy in the vein of the 1937 film Topper.

This production successfully focuses on the music. The songs are beautifully sung. I appreciate a wide variety of musical theater styles, including mixing in rock, hip-hop, and contemporary music, and it's still a joy to hear well trained "legit" voices. If you enjoy the traditional musical theater sound, you won't be disappointed in this cast.

Death Takes A Holiday premiered Off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre 7/14/2011 for a limited run through 9/4/2011 produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company.

Death Takes a Holiday Plays on the Arvada Center Main Stage from April 26 through May 15
