Levi Coffin A remarkable rhetoric
The Abolition Movement was a movement to end slavery it was a movement to set all slaves free. Levi Coffin was a normal American man who did great things throughout his whole life. Levi Coffin nobaly affected the abolishing movement.
Levi coffin was born October 28,1798, Guilford County, North Carolina. Levi was the only son and had six sisters. He was raised on a farm and that provided little opportunity for formal education.(Britannica).Even though it was hard he became a teacher. Levi established a Sunday school for slaves in 1818 and taught them how to read and write. Later the school was canceled because nobody liked that he was teaching slaves. On October 28 1824 Levi got married to a girl named Catharine. They both moved to Newport and they opened a store there. Later they both joined a movement called the Underground Railroad. Levi Coffin did all this being only twenty eight years of age.

Levi and his wife did many good things they would feed, give water, clothes and a place to rest to all the runaway slaves they could. Levi dedicated his life to helping enslave men and women escape slavery(Wood). Levi and his wife helped free many slaves escape to the North. They both helped more than 2,000 slaves(Wood). Levi would let slaves stay at his house during these pre Civil war days.
The Coffin’s moved to Cincinnati where Levi wrote an autobiography published after the Civil War(Waynet). After dedicating his life to do good and help slaves he died in Cincinnati in the year 1877 September 16 he was 79 years old when he died. His house became a National Historic landmark(Waynet). Levi and Catharine coffin's house became known as "The Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad"(Indiana state museum).Levi will forever be known as The president of the Underground Railroad.
Levi Coffin was a great man who did great things, he was known as the president of the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad was a secret organization that helped slaves escape to the North. Levi Coffin will alway be remembered as a great man who did great things.
