Typography and Publications Assessment Task 2

This is a TASK overview and does not replace any existing coursework documents.

Course Overview

All specific student directions, submission dates and syllabus outcomes have been removed and this overview can be used as is.

In Term 2 2020 our focus in part is on working with type as a design element. This means that we look at text / type in terms of shape, scale, colour, transparency etc and use it to create engaging design work as opposed to conveying a narrative. Here, formal 'elements' come into play alongside the organizing 'principles'.

The first part of this project brings together Photoshop skills from the previous term and allows you the student to solve the brief with complete creative freedom.

hardcopy and digital zines

The second part of this project involves the production of a range of Zines. Whilst you will explore traditional concepts related to grids, their histories and the ways they are applied to assist with layout, the making of small zine based publications encourages you to explore alternative layouts that break out of the constraints determined by grid types.

The project explores traditional approaches to publishing (hard copy) that originate in the pre- digital age as well as production / print processes involving Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
