Haro backtrail x1

This beast was the first bike I ever bought with my own money. I got it at Freewheel bike shop in Jasper in 2005. I was 12 at the time, and I was stoked.

I think it cost me something like $220 and was at least a year or two old. Still though, it was my first good bike. It came with four chrome pegs and had far fewer stickers on it. I rode the hell out of that thing as a kid. I shredded around my acreage, biking up and down far-too-big hills for a BMX and spending hour after hour on that bike.

A few stickers

It wasn’t that great, component-wise. It had Tektro brakes, an ORYG gyro that made the rear brakes shit and the front brake never did work quite well. I didn’t know any better and loved the thing anyway. Pretty soon, my friends all got dirtjumpers and mountain bikes, and a mountain bike park was built in my town (Hinton, AB). BMXing wasn’t cool anymore, and I couldn’t afford to buy a bigger bike. I still rode around a bit on my BMX, but my inabilty to keep up with everyone else made me stop biking as much.

I didn’t know any better and loved the thing anyway.

After that I moved away from the mountains and into the prairie. I took up longboarding and my bikes started to gather dust in the garage. I could never sell the bike though, it held a special place in my heart. Now it acts as my cruising around town bike for when I dont need to go fast and want something fun to ride. It is especially good at liquor store trips.

I could never sell the bike though, it held a special place in my heart.
