"I view the kids in our junior program as golf's new foundation. These are tomorrow's leaders, ambassadors and some of them, future stars. My mission is to share with them everything others have shared with me. The return on that investment is amazing."

learning the game
The best place to begin learning golf is on the putting green. In previous articles we have talked about the grip and the “Y” set up. Let’s put that to work on the putting green. When we grip the putter we simply put our thumbs on the flat side of the putter grip, with the right hand under the left hand.
Let your arms hang freely and grip the club with both thumbs on top.
Your arms and the putter form the letter “Y”. Place the ball between your feet, and bend at the hips so that your eyes line up directly over the ball.
During the putting stroke the back swing should match the follow through, moving the entire “Y”. Moving the “Y” without breaking down at the wrist or elbow will create a very efficient arc with the putter head. You should feel your core activate as you move just the “Y”, in fact I often times tell students to tighten their tummies before starting the swing to engage the core.
Putting is all about distance and direction. Use "ready 1, 2, 3" method
Ready: thumbs on top, eyes over the ball with the "Y" set up
- Look at the target
- Look back at the ball
- Stroke the putt
- Move from 2 to 3 without delay
- Putter moves away from the ball while eyes are moving from the target to the ball
- Eliminates the tendency to coach yourself over the ball
- Better when you look and shoot…no thinking
