MarriageMatters For better or worse

On February 23rd we passed the 25 year mark of our life as husband and wife. I can honestly say that it doesn't feel like a monumental feat. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that we have "made it" to this milestone, but we cannot take much credit for our good fortune. Dean and I have had the advantage of observing truly great marriages all of our lives.

Love is a verb

Our parents have celebrated their 50th Anniversaries and beyond. We've seen first hand what it looks like to live out the vows. Sickness-Health, Better-Worse, Richer-Poorer, Good times and Bad

More is caught than taught

We watched them live real lives. They lived authentically, demonstrated commitment, and grew stronger in their love and faith as we grew up in their homes.

Legacy

We are not special. We've been blessed, and got lucky in the life lottery. So, we are grateful and careful. We appreciate the sacrifices that our parents and grandparents have made to endow us, and we work to protect their legacy and hope to pass it on.

Love Letters

Below is one of the countless letters mom has written to us. Although it is personal, I wanted to share it as an example of how she uses her gift of encouragement.

Dear Tamara and Dean,

We just want to send congratulations your way today in honour of your milestone anniversary. You are an amazing couple and we are so very proud of you. Your accomplishments and the goals you have set for yourselves over this span of your marriage have been exemplary. You have always been a very strong, supportive team and have set standards high for your 3 beautiful sons. You are consistently showering Love, Laughter and Faith with whomever you come in contact with and your generosity has no boundaries. We wish you many more years of love and happiness. We also wish you safe and healthy travels as you set out on your 25th year adventure around the World.

Love ,

Mom and Dad

Those who play together, stay together

25 years is a pretty long time ( the equivalent of a life sentence). But as the saying goes, time flies when you're having fun. We have fun.

I've always maintained that the secret to staying connected--for us--is to share a few interests. I go to car shows, he comes to Yoga...oops, I mean the GYM. We both love to ski fast, dive deep, and see the world. Which is exactly what we are off to do. And that's what matters to me.
