Visit to Get Reel Fisheries Which Supply Maximo Seafood Shack STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBERT NEFF

April 11, 2016. I visited Get Reel Fisheries who supplies Maximo Seafood Shack. I was shown around the Fisheries and observed the operation. The fleet of ships was at the pier getting ready to go back out to the Gulf. Get Reel Fisheries is located on a protected cove off the IntraCoastal Waterway in Redington Shores, Florida.

The captains are never more than a hundred miles offshore and may travel as far as the keys. They catch each fish with a rod and reel and sometimes use an electric reel. They catch anywhere from 3-5000 pounds of fish a trip.

Gag grouper, margate, american red and trigger fish are considered by-catch. These kind of fish were not the primary catch the fisherman were after in the Gulf.
