Weidner Cares! Showing our communities that we care

In 2013, Weidner Apartment Homes held a series of company-wide employee engagement meetings to help better understand the wants and needs of our associates. Our team members told us emphatically that they wanted to get involved with community service in the cities they live and work in, and out of that clear directive,

Weidner Cares! was born.

A place for our people.

We are excited to provide this benefit to our associates, and are proud of the grassroots nature of how it came about. Our goal is to build upon the unique culture that’s been developed here at Weidner, and to foster a commitment to giving back to the communities that have been so good to us as a company. We want our communities to know that as a company, We Care!

What does this mean?

  • At least one event per region is sponsored annually
  • We target local non-profit organizations as partners
  • Projects are selected based on community need and overall impact
  • All employees are invited to participate

What does a Weidner Cares event look like?

At these events, all of our employees are given the opportunity to participate in a large-scale community service project. From the Boys and Girls Club, to the Permian Basin Mission Center, Weidner Cares! has touched lives across the US and Canada.

Volunteers:

  • We have between 15 and 200 employee volunteers at any given event
  • Our employees range from enthusiastic volunteers (administrators, leasing agents, management staff) to the technically skilled (maintenance techs, plumbers, light electrical, light carpentry, painting, housekeeping)

Projects:

  • Previous projects include exterior painting, installing shelving, drywall work, demolishing and rebuilding a maintenance shed, repairing and re-installing a commercial a/c system, installing new flooring, deep cleaning, organizing offices, building sleeping platforms and a shade structure for a chicken coop, and lots of yard work

So, what's next?

Oftentimes, a little help can go a long way for the numerous nonprofits that rely upon volunteers to accomplish all the good work they do, and it is our goal to choose projects in which our specific type of volunteer work will have the largest impact.

In each of our regions, we look at between 5 and 10 potential nonprofit partners for each Weidner Cares! project before narrowing it down to the selected partner for that year. We work for a full 8 hour day, and provide lunch to all of our associates.

If your organization could use this type of volunteer work, please let us know! We are always looking for new partners in each of our regions. Email publicrelations@weidner.com for more information.
