This event is organized by The American Institute of Architects, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter (AIA-EPA) and The Construction of Specifications Institute, Allentown Chapter (CSI).
The purpose of Canstruction was to not only show off our engineering skills involving construction, but to build a structure of healthy food that would be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Although this event has been held annually around the world since 1992, Barry Isett and Associates Inc. was fortunate enough to participate in the first-ever Lehigh Valley Canstruction, held at the Lehigh Valley Mall located in Whitehall PA.
Our team members gathered prior to build day to evaluate the technique required to build a successful structure.
Under the Direction of John Carson, Assoc. AIA, the BIA-CAN! team, morphed 4,072 cans of donated food into a fun turkey structure for a great cause.
Cans purchased from a team sponsor, Wegmans, were selected to provided a great variation of color that attributed to the look of the sculpture.
Much patience and team work was essential.
The end result was more than worth it.
The BIA-CAN! Team was awarded The Juror's Favorite and Best Use of Labels awards, but even better they were able to put their skills of construction to use for a charitable cause that benefited those in need.
