Marinwood Fire Department's New Engine

You may have noticed our brand new fire engine in front of the fire station. After twenty-plus years of dedicated service, it was time to retire our old engine. As such, we’ve gone back to our roots and decided to have the engine painted traditional fire engine red. The new engine is truly state-of-art and equipped with the latest safety gear and apparatus. Please feel free to stop by and take a look the next time you are enjoying the park and see it in the firehouse driveway. Be sure to bring the kids so they can receive their special firefighter helmet and sticker badge.

Volunteer Firefighters Graduate

Two members of Marinwood’s dedicated Volunteer Firefighters have recently graduated from the Volunteer Academy. Volunteer firefighters Tommy Marinoff and Shane Kunst each spent eight consecutive Sunday’s attending various full-day trainings at multiple fire stations located around County. Congratulations and a debt of gratitude for their service are in order for these two individuals!

Improved ISO Rating

The Marinwood Fire Department recently underwent an Insurance Service Organization (ISO) Audit Report. This rating is used by insurance companies to help set fire insurance rates, although how each company uses the rating varies company to company. The ratings range from Class 1 to Class 7, with Class 1 being the highest. We are proud to announce that Marinwood has been upgraded to a Class 2 Department from a Class 4 Department. A number of factors contributed to the improved rating including our automatic aid agreements with Novato FPD and SRFD, the department apparatus fleet is newer with a better hose compliment, the water delivery system for fire protection in Marinwood and Lucas Valley has been vastly improved by MMWD, and the documented hours of our volunteer firefighter force. Also, the department’s business occupancy inspections, hydrant maintenance, hose testing, vegetation management, code adoption, and new records management system all helped improve the rating.

*The new ISO rating goes into effect April 1. Homeowners and businesses are encouraged to contact their insurance carrier and inform them of the improved rating. It could help lower fire insurance rates. If you have any questions, call Fire Chief Tom Roach at 415-479-0122.

Marinwood Solar Project

Work has begun to outfit our community center facilities and pool complex with solar power generation! An early phase of the project will involve replacing and expanding the current shade structure in the pool area next to the outdoor showers. In addition to supporting a portion of the solar panels, the new shade structure will provide even more shaded area in the pool complex, including the tot pool area, by which to escape the blazing sun. Future work will be completed on the pool house and the community center roofs, supplying Marinwood CSD with clean solar power and reducing our energy costs for the next 20 years.

New Pool Hillside Picnic Area

The arrival of the 2016 pool season brings with it an inviting addition to our pool complex. Our dedicated park staff – Marco Giron, Victor Sibbaluca and Estevan Chavez – have created an attractive picnic area and graded path on the berm closest to Miller Creek. Their hard work over the winter provides a safe and level area for special gatherings while providing a wonderful place to gaze up at the hills that border our community and an elevated overlook of those enjoying the pool. The inclusion of shaded picnic tables are sure to make this transformed pool area a popular gathering point for many. That Victor, Marco and Esteban undertook this significant project while at the same time making visible improvements all around our parks is a testimony to their value to our community.

The new picnic area can be reserved and rented in advance for your special gathering. For more information, please contact the District office at: 415.479.0775
