Custom Branded Experience Client: nickelodeon

For World Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science, Collab, designed, developed, and fabricated a fully branded experience to promote the new weekly hit show on Nickelodeon called Gameshakers. The experience combined a customized activation that helped visitors learn and explore the art of video game design and the science of computer programming.

Our team worked very closely to uncover what would be the best experience for visitors to the booth and what would give nickelodeon the most value. This project was an example of how Collab can harness all of the talent and resources under one roof and create a fully branded experience.

Visitors to the booth were given a branded worksheet to create a unique character. The worksheet was designed to educate participants on fundamental programming elements.

After visitors were done creating their character they would head over to video game stations to see their characters come to life. Gameshaker staff helped participants activate their programmable paper. Once the paper was placed in the robot kiosk, the user would see their character being scanned into the game. The experience allowed the users to name their character and they would see on the screen all of the choices they put on their worksheet being digitized and turned into a video game character. It was very powerful for people to see this process and to be able to interact with their own creation. Once the game was over their character would appear on a large screen inside the booth. They were then directed to our print station where they would see their character shoot through the brick wall and be inserted into a branded gameshakers notebook with a frame on the cover which then transformed into their own notebook with their character.

The experience was a Maker Faire 2015 Blue Ribbon Award Winner. Over the course of two days we produced over 700 characters made by people who left inspired and excited to learn more.

A week after Maker Faire, visitors were sent an email link to their individual character as well as all of the other characters created at the booth.
