#RaisingTheSteaks introducing the lehigh valley cheesesteaks

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, will change their name to the Cheesesteaks for “Salute to Philadelphia Night” and in a unique twist, fans can vote to determine whether the “Wit” or the “Witout” cap design is worn on-field during the June 10 game against the Durham Bulls.

While there is no debating that Philadelphia is the birthplace of the cheesesteak, there is much consternation over the proper way to eat these sandwiches – either “wit” or “witout” onions.

IT'S TIME PICK A SIDE

"Wit" makes you a fun one. You're not afraid to mix tings up a little bit and play a little dirty. #TeamWit is the way to go when you believe that life is better with a little flavor.

"Witout" doesn't equal boring. It pays homage to the traditional. You're upholding the way things have been since the beginning, and these rules have been created for a reason.

EAT YOUR CHEESESTEAK.

AND WEAR IT, TOO.

The Cheesesteaks black jersey design features the word “Steaks” emblazoned across the front chest in “Cheese Wiz” yellow. The chest patch, complete with the appearance of dripping cheese, was specifically designed to emulate the characteristics of hot cheese on a steak sandwich. The jerseys sleeve patch incorporates the steak sandwich logo.

THE HISTORY OF THE CHEESESTEAK

Cheesesteaks have been referred to as both a civic icon and a cultural obsession in Philadelphia. Debuting in the 1930’s, the cheesesteak was invented in Philadelphia and today is served in hundreds of steakhouses around the city.

THE BOND

The connection between Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley runs deeper than many people think as in 1777, the Liberty Bell was hidden in Allentown so that the British army wouldn’t melt it down for munitions. Of course, the city of Philadelphia’s role in the founding of the United State of America is unmatched as it served as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787.

SALUTE TO PHILADELPHIA NIGHT

In addition to the name and uniform change, other promotions planned for “Salute to Philadelphia Night” on June 10 include appearances throughout the game by the world-famous Phillie Phanatic and post-game Friday Night Fireworks presented by Brown Daub Kia.
