What Kind of God is This? B-sides • 29 November 2015

"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in a cloud' with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Luke 21:25-28
After the fear and foreboding, after the powers are shaken, then your redemption is coming.

Reflect

1. How do the consequences of bad choices effect our relationship with God, and what does God do about our sin?

2. How do you reconcile a God who doesn't ignore or excuse our sins but who also forgives and loves mercifully?

3. What does it mean to you that there is freedom in looking honestly at your sin?

This God who we worship sent deliverance for refugees in the form of a baby. This God who we worship considers a child to be the answer to peace. This God who we worship says that justice comes through a carpenter from the hinterlands.

Oh, Almighty God. Save us from ourselves. The line between good and evil runs down the middle of each human heart. With trembling and desperation, we lift up our hearts and beg you to cleanse them. With hope and trust, we stand in your grace, on the redemption made for us by your Son, Jesus Christ. It is in his name that we rejoice and in his name that we pray. Amen.
