So how do you cultivate Self-Mastery?

Y.O.U 101 - Steps to PERSONAL-Mastery

PHASE I - Self Location

Phase I - Self Location – (Foundations)

This phase is a little bit like becoming your own GPS. In today’s fast paced, media inundated world, as you well know, it can be really easy to end up lost in a quagmire of information that leaves you feeling stranded and stuck. If you’ve found yourself buying the latest greatest self help or diet books only to find yourself feeling worse than when you started or if you’ve gotten so frustrated with it all that you’ve given up on the desire to feel great because you’re barely even able to feel good on a semi-regular basis then, guess what? It’s TIME. It’s time to realize that you’re a little lost.

There’s no shame in admitting you’ve lost your way. In fact, stopping and recognizing that you’re lost can be the most exciting, the scariest, and the SMARTEST thing to do. It’s also the ONLY, and I do mean only, way to figure out where you really are and how you’re really going to get where you want to go.

That’s what PHASE I is all about; helping you stop the madness of circling lost so you can get down to the excitement of figuring out how to get where you really want to go.

In PHASE I you will learn who YOU really are biologically, psychologically, and philosophically (in other words; body/mind/spirit). You’ll get to break through the myths of who you think you’re supposed to be, or who your family has decided you’re supposed be, and definitely bust up the beliefs about who the media tells you you should be.

YOU are unique, in fact, everything about you only exists in you. Your metabolic function, which is what helps you find your perfect body size and energy, is as unique as your fingerprint. Your DNA which includes your genetic heritage is yours and yours alone. Your likes/dislikes, desires, ambitions, points of pleasure and pain, both emotional and physical, are all unique to you.

PHASE I is all about LOCATING the REAL YOU. Breathing a sigh of relief here…

What will you do in PHASE I? You will:

  • Investigate how you eat, how you move, and how you think.
  • Find out what your traps, triggers, and treats are.
  • Learn how to stoke your furnace and fuel your fire by identifying your individual metabolic function.
  • Dig down deep to your roots and find out how your genetic lineage influences your food/mood needs and choices.
  • Discover your sensory preferences and proclivities.
  • Bone up on the basics of taste and flavor and how they impact your body/mind
  • Explore how your unique personality contributes to your unique digestive process and vice versa.
  • Become your own GPS; map your territory and get really clear on your unique destination.

You will do all this and more within the comfort of your surroundings and with a safe supportive community. When PHASE I ends you will know exactly where you are and where you want to go. Woohoo.

PHASE II

PHASE II – Setting out and getting there (Proficiency)

Okay so by now you have identified where you want to be. You’ve even created a map. You’ve sifted through your “stuff”, offloaded what you don’t need, organized what you do need and your ready to become a journeying human. PHASE II gets you in motion. There is a difference between the map and the territory, this is what you’ll discover in Phase II.

The map is full of great ideas about how to get from point A to point B. You’ve created some really great structure and now you get implement it. If you find out you wrote in a wrong turn, that’s okay, you’ll have all the support you need to get you back on track. PHASE II will help you set out and arrive at your destination with grace and ease, laughter and probably a few tears, but tears are good too; all with a well earned Hooray when you get there.

In PHASE II you will bump it up a notch by taking the information and experiences you gathered in PHASE I and putting them to the test. You will:

  • Identify your own unique dietary needs and begin to create a relationship with food and eating that nourishes and fulfills.
  • Explore the best way to implement your optimal lifestyle needs.
  • Discover more tips, tricks and tools to help you biologically, psychologically and philosophically as you work towards your goals.
  • Investigate ways to refine your unique process so it becomes a way of life.
  • Explore and expand the boundaries of your palate and sensory experience

When you’ve finished with Phase II, you will have developed a level of self mastery that allows you to live with greater ease, enjoy more of each day, feel connected, supported, vibrant and alive. So, now what???

If you’ve located yourself, mapped your destination, and arrived, what could possibly be left? Well, this is actually the most critical place. Right here is the make or break point.

NOW WHAT???

Have you ever dieted, lost the weight, felt absolutely fantastic, only to put it all back on again and more? Or have you started an exercise program that seemed to work, only to plateau, burn out and quit going? Worse yet, how about when you’re successful, feel great, look fantastic and you have friends and family who try to sabotage you??? It happens more often than you realize. All of these things go part and parcel with “now what”? syndrome.

PHASE III

PHASE III - Arrival (Personal-Mastery)

Research shows that a whopping 90% of the people who make changes that feel great but don’t last, are victims of the “now what” syndrome. They aren’t prepared to integrate the success of their efforts and end up sliding back into the “old” habits and patterns that generated the imbalance in the first place. Don’t worry, though, this isn’t going to happen to you… enter PHASE III.

PHASE III is all about Mastery. It includes filling your toolbag with emergency rations and safety gear; having a plan for those moments when everything you worked so hard for seems to be going to… well, wherever it goes when it’s just not working. It’s about creating a life that is seamlessly aligned with your best self. Have you ever heard the feel good quote, “how about creating a life that you don’t have to take a vacation from?”, well, that’s PHASE III.

Bringing it all together...

You’ve arrived! Woohoo! Now what? Well, now you get to really make it all happen. This is where you put it all into practice and really solidify your best and truest self. Think of it like this; very often we are inundated with messages that function and just getting it done, making the dollar, completing the project are the most important thing. The truth is function is great but it’s just one step in the ladder. In fact, if you stop at just being functional, you will ultimately create yet another cycle of burnout.

In terms of brain and nervous system development the next step is called “Self Transcendence”. Interesting that it sounds sort of spiritually inclined or new agey. What it really means is the neurobiological mechanisms of maintaining a harmonious balance between your internal world, biologically, psychologically, and philosophically, and your external world. It’s a very real, very measurable and concrete aspect of your nervous system and brain development. When you practice the exercises and use the tools of self transcendence, you create more concrete changes in your neural networking, which means change that lasts. In PHASE III you will:

  • Take your Self Discovery to the next level
  • Change and balance your neurochemistry
  • Begin really walking your talk – showing the world a more vibrant, vital you.
  • Create strategies to deflect and deconstruct sabotage – both from yourself and from those around you who might be very uncomfortable with the new and vibrant you. (This is an important reality of positive growth that is rarely talked about…sometimes people are very committed to the status quo, even if the status quo includes your ill health or unhappiness.)
  • Move from functional to pleasurable, deepening your awareness of what is genuinely pleasant and desirable and keep it flowing into your life.
