Wearing Two Different Shoes: A Psychological Analysis of Sylvia Plath’s Novel The Bell Jar

By: Connor Tumiel

Plath described her novel, The Bell Jar, as “an autobiographical apprentice work which [she] had to write in order to free [herself] from the past.” In fact, this remarkable novel was the result of a suggestion made to her by her psychiatrist that she write as a method of treatment. Consequently, The Bell Jar contains a hidden, yet psychologically compelling, language which Plath wove throughout the novel – a language that I have deciphered and translated into the signs and symptoms of Bipolar II disorder.

Reflection on mass at St. John Baptist Church

By: James Rutowski

As a member of the course African American Lives and Culture, co-taught by Dr. Bruce Dierenfield and Dr. Robert Butler, I recently attended mass at a historically African American church. My experience at St. John Baptist Church was an enlightening one and I hope to share some of my reflections and insights here.

Praça do Comércio

By: Joseph Lesh

Located by the Tagus River in Lisbon, Portugal, the Praça do Comércio is an international destination displaying beautiful, traditional Portuguese architecture. The original Praça do Comércio was constructed in the early 16th century under the orders of King Manuel I. It was rebuilt in 1755 after its destruction in an earthquake that was closely followed by a tsunami and, ironically, a massive fire. Here is a small portion of it as seen by local rooftops!
