What is a lift?
The word "lift" dates back to the Middle Ages when most people walked. If someone was walking up a steep hill or mountain and a wagon passed them, they would often be offered a lift. Not having to walk would also make that person happy, or "lift" their spirits.
So "lifts' existed hundreds of years before the automobile was even thought of! Lifts in the middle ages may have been by horse and cart or even just a horse. Nowadays a lift can be on any form of transport - cars, motorbikes, boats, buses, rickshaws and more!

Your safety is important

- Lift groups are private. You can only join a lift group by invitation or by creating a lift group of your own with people you trust
- All lifts are tracked so you always know where your loved ones are if they are travelling with someone else
- If you find someone in your lift group that you do not know or trust you can block them. They will never see your lift requests for offers and you will not see theirs.

Localift for the elderly and people with disabilities
If you have a disability that prevents you from driving, create lift groups with family and friends who are happy to support you.
You can also set up a lift group with disability taxi drivers and use Localift to book your lift requests directly with drivers you know. Localift's geo mapping and tracking means you can share where you are and let others know your time of arrival.
If you're a carer for a person with a disability, you can link your friend or family member to your Membership as a "Linked Passenger". You can request lifts on their behalf and engage family, friends and carers to help you with the driving.
