IWI LISTENS....

Since this is our first issue since the revision of the IWI Newsletter, we thought we’d take this opportunity to reacquaint you with IWI and spotlight our plans for 2016.

IWI is an international women’s human rights organization based in both the UK and US. Since 2012, IWI has worked to eradicate and educate on human rights violations against women. We take our values very seriously and believe that we cannot one day have equality without transparency, collaboration, inclusiveness, integrity, or tenacity. Our mission is to raise awareness of the threats to the human rights of women across the globe and to promote and assist in the achievement of gender equality. This is done through our programmes and education.

Our vision is that one day, women all over the world will be the protagonists of their own lives. Through awareness and developmental changes, I believe this is possible.

Thank you for reading our revised newsletter. We will try to keep future issues as informative and interesting as we can.

Support our Safe Birthing Programme

At IWI, we’ve always been about helping others and strengthening their communities. Now our commitment is even more important. Soon you’ll have the opportunity to show how much you care by supporting our upcoming Women United campaign. The Women United campaign is presented on behalf of the Safe Birthing Programme which advances the common good of the Amolatar District of Uganda by helping to reduce maternal complications, providing much needed reproductive and HIV/AIDS education, as well as creating opportunities for a better life for those affected by these issues. That is why I am asking each of you to donate $20 USD, or whatever amount comfortable for you, at the launch of the Women United campaign. Your donation, no matter what the amount, makes a difference and is vitally important.

With one gift to the Women United campaign, you will touch and improve the lives of many women and their families. When we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. We all win when women are able to deliver their babies without fear of death for both of them, when a child has the opportunity to be born without HIV and when women are able to live so that they can be mothers to their children. These results and changes have benefits that ripple out to the community as a whole, helping others and strengthening the district. Now, more than ever, your gift goes a long way in improving the lives of Amolatar women and their children.

We will be kicking off our Women United on March 1st. We have put together a wonderful campaign for you to learn more about the women of Amolatar. Let’s make this the most successful campaign ever!

Please join me in giving to the Women United campaign and donate by clicking the link below. Remember you can give and you can advocate. That’s what it means to live united.

FACT: In Uganda a woman dies from childbirth related complications every 90 seconds.

IWI is proud to introduce Voices Magazine

What was once the Survivor’s Blog of International Women's Initiative (IWI), Voices has evolved into its own identity, as well as a provocative online magazine created with the specific purpose of spotlighting women’s human rights issues. Voices provides readers an open window into the experiences and lives of women, while highlighting the importance of human rights equality. Under the direction of Editor in Chief Vanessa Thevathasan, Voices Magazine provides a voice for the unheard.

Not like anything you have seen. Vanessa Thevathasan, Editor in Chief, Voices Magazine

From its beginnings, Voices Magazine has operated on three central principles that set us apart: investment in fact reporting that puts women’s human rights at the center of the culture, a commitment to visual genius, and a selective, critical, optimistic editorial eye.

Voice’s story is the story of women, of human rights, of what is worth knowing and seeing, of individuality and strength, and of the steady power of earned influence. Voices is the eye of the feminist culture, inspiring and challenging both women and men to see things differently, in both themselves and the world.

The mission of Voices is simple:

We aim to pioneer a media movement leading to the consolidation of women’s human rights, public liberties and the promotion of their values and principles.

“At Voices we put the human rights of women at the centre of the story”
