Florida vs. Vanderbilt November 7, 2015

The Florida Gators entered this year's homecoming contest against Vanderbilt with a chance to clinch the SEC East division title and earn a berth in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

After warming up in the traditional orange helmets ...

... the Gators ran out the tunnel in brand new white helmets, much to the delight of fans.

The new helmets paid homage to the past, with the Gators script logo on one side, and the present, sporting the new slant F logo on the other.

The Gators started out with a bang, as Brandon Powell returned the opening kickoff to the Commodores' 23 yard line.

Powell's opening kick return was a career-long 71 yards.

Kelvin Taylor scored on a 3 yard run to give Florida a 6-0 lead (after a missed extra point) late in the first quarter.

Taylor has 11 rushing touchdowns, fifth-most in the SEC.

Three UF turnovers in the second quarter and a long Vanderbilt touchdown run gave the Commodores a 7-6 lead going into the break.

Treon Harris lost a fumble and threw an interception in the second quarter.

Despite the offense's struggles, the Gators defense continued to play at an elite level, holding Vanderbilt to 7 points on the afternoon.

Jon Bullard and the defense were suffocating once again, holding Vanderbilt to 175 total yards on the day.

The third quarter saw both teams labor on offense in a scoreless frame dominated by defense.

Antonio Callaway (pictured above) provided a huge boost on special teams, returning 7 punts for a career-high 110 yards, setting the Gators offense up with good field position.

The offense finally capitalized in the fourth quarter, getting into field goal range for Austin Hardin to attempt a 43 yard field goal.

Hardin's kick sailed through the uprights and the Gators celebrated as they took a 9-7 lead with 2:22 remaining in the game.

The Florida defense held strong on the Commodores' final drive, securing the victory.

Alex McCalister was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after totaling 2.5 sacks, including one on the final drive.

With the win, Florida clinched its first trip to the SEC Championship Game since 2009.

Head Coach Jim McElwain is the third first-year coach in SEC history to reach the championship game.

Florida will face the winner of the SEC West in the title game in Atlanta on December 5.
