How are acids and bases used in the medical industry? By Leo CHun

Acids and bases are used in our everyday life. They are two very different compounds.

When they are mixed together, they both go neutral. When they do, they create salt water.

Acids are everywhere. We use them as drain cleaners, cleaning detergents and ETC.

Acids vary in their strengths and the stronger ones are mostly used industrially.

an Indicator is a liquid or piece of paper which will change colour depending on if the liquid it is placed in is an acid or a base. The indicator will turn red when it is put into acid. The indicator will turn blue if it is put into a base.

When placed on a piece of cloth, the acid will burn a whole right through it. The acid dissolves the cloth. When a base is put on a piece of cloth, The cloth will start to unravel.

Acids are used medically. One example is Aspirin. Aspirin is an acid which is not strong enough to damage you. This weak acid provides beneficial ways of curing sickness. Although harmless at small amounts, just like any other chemical, taking too much will result in your death.

A way to take down the acidity is to add a base to the aspirin in order to dilute it.

When ingested, Acid will cause the human body to change the PH level of the blood neutral in order to counter it. This helps keep our bodies... Not fzzzzzzz.

The kinds of medicine you take for your blood depends on what the condition is. You must ingest a base if the ph level is too low and you must ingest an acid if the ph level is too high in order to dilute the blood and keep our bodies from going FZZZZZ. (Dissolving sound)

acids and bases are also used in cosmetic products. This includes makeup and soap and more. A mild dose of acid is out into hair conditioner. The acid makes the cuticles flat in order to make the hair silkier.

Soap has base in it. Shampoo has Cetyl alcohol which makes sure that water and oil do not separate.

Our blood has a very specific PH level which will kill us if the blood toxicity goes beyond that range. The range is 7.35-7.45.
